Anybody who works with WordPress and thinks WooCommerce is an elegant ecommerce solution is not paying attention to life.
WooCommerce is, as far as I know, by far the most popular ecommerce plugin for WordPress, but like the JetPack plugin, it comes with so much bulk that it comfortably fits into the bloatware department, squeezing its fat body in between the likes of JetPack and the like.
I’ve always been a fan of Ecwid, which in my opinion is a better ecommerce solution than Shopify, but with less marketing spend than Shopify.
But Ecwid no longer has a free tier.
So I went hunting for another solution and came across what has to be the perfect WordPress ecommerce solution: SureCart.
Like Ecwid, SureCart is not a dedicated WordPress plugin. Or at least it doesn’t feel like it.
At the very least, when you install SureCart, it doesn’t feel like you’re the owner of an exclusive mall, but when you visit the mall a week after opening, it’s overrun by street vendors selling cheap neon bangles and knock-off Spider-Mun t-shirts.
That’s what it feels like to work with WooCommerce. The thing just kind of wraps its tentacles around your throat and squeezes the life out of you.
That’s not SureCart.
Like most of these ecommerce solutions, SureCart comes with paid add-ons:
- order bumps,
- cart abandonment,
- one-click upsells,
- price boost,
- an affiliate platform,
- and a licensing platforrm.
Or that’s how it used to be.
But much to the chagrine…
of their competitors…
SureCart has now started including these add-ons absolutely free.
That’s incredible.
An old dog like me wonders: what’s the catch?
But it seems, for the time being, at least, there isn’t one.
Perhaps it’s a way of increasing the number of users, and down the line somewhere they’ll send a little man in a grey suit to take names.
